I still remember -like it was yesterday- the first time I ate a donut. It was 1990. I was pregnant with my first daughter Andrea. Those sweet dough circles became an obsession. There was only one store in the entire city and was a little far from home. Because I was pregnant, sometimes I was lucky to find a kind soul who would take me to satisfy my cravings {but not as often as I would have liked it LOL}
After a while I met the donut holes!!
Yippie…All the sweetness of the donuts only in smaller portions. Perfect for people like me who have to look after the intake of calories.
After my first encounter with these delicious sweet balls they have become one of my favorites. Never crossed my mind that there would be a way so easy to prepare them at home. Now that I know, my imagination has no limits: chocolate, dulce de leche, custard, etc … you name it! I want to try it.
Yeap… you can lick the screen if you want LOL
This recipe is so easy to prepare that you can make it at any time. Enjoy!
Dulce de Leche Filled Donut Holes
Ingredients
- 5 cups of corn oil for deep frying
- 1 cup of sugar
- 2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon
- Store-bought buttermilk biscuit dough
- 8 oz of dulce de leche milk caramel spread
Instructions
- Heat corn oil to 350° F. If you don’t have an electric deep fryer you can use a regular pot but you’ll need enough oil to fill 2 inches of the pot you're using.
- In a shallow plate combine cinnamon and sugar.
- Divide each pre-cut biscuit dough into halves. Take one half and flatten dough. Put 1 tablespoon of dulce de leche in the middle. Fold up dough, seal and roll into a ball.
- Slide doughnuts balls into hot oil with slotted spoon and fry until golden brown. Remove immediately and roll around onto the cinnamon sugar mixture.
- Let cool on a wire rack.
