This Tzatziki Sauce Recipe, also known as Greek yogurt sauce, is easy to make, refreshing, and so delicious! This healthy sauce is so versatile that it is the perfect accompaniment to many dishes. Use it as a sauce on your sandwiches, pitas, gyros, tacos, or as a dip.
Grate the cucumber. NOTE: Some people like to squeeze the water out of the cucumber. I don't do that, and I don't find it necessary. However, you can do it if you prefer. To do so, grate the cucumber, place it in a clean kitchen cloth or a heavy napkin and then squeeze all the liquid out.
Mix the Greek yogurt, cucumber, garlic, olive oil, dill, and salt in a bowl until well combined. Taste and adjust to your liking; you can add more salt or garlic, if necessary.
Cover and chill for a couple of hours before serving.
Notes
STORE: the Tzatziki sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week.MAKE AHEAD: You can make tzatziki sauce ahead of time. Store it in the refrigerator in an airtight glass container. It is best to use it within 2 to 4 days.CUCUMBER: Hot House cucumber is also known as English cucumber. They're the long ones that come individually wrapped. EXTRA TIPS:
For an extra thick sauce, I like to use whole milk Greek yogurt but can also use fat-free or low-fat if you prefer.
Refrigerate the sauce at least 2 hours before serving.
Adjust the quality of garlic according to your liking. I generally add two garlic cloves, which adds a nice garlicky flavor without being overwhelming.
