What I Love About This Recipe

Ingredients You’ll Need, Substitutions & Notes
Please check the recipe card at the bottom of the post for exact quantities and detailed instructions (scroll down).
- Pork Chops: I like and recommend using thick-cut, bone-in pork chops. Leaner/ thinner cuts will not be as tender.
- Seasonings: You’ll need salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
- Oil: Any oil you have handy will work for this recipe.
- Fresh garlic: For extra flavor! Don’t skip it.
- Honey: This helps to naturally sweeten the sauce. Feel free to use more or less to taste, depending on how sweet you prefer the sauce.
- Broth: Regular or low-sodium chicken or vegetable broth or stock is the base of the sauce.
- Rice wine vinegar: You can substitute for another light, mild vinegar, such as apple cider vinegar or champagne vinegar.
- Soy sauce: Regular soy sauce is usually pretty salty, so I like to use the low sodium soy sauce to cut back on the sodium level. Coconut aminos is also a great substitute for those looking for a soy-free alternative.
- Worcestershire sauce: I love adding it for extra flavor.
- Cornstarch: You can substitute for potato starch 1:1.
Food Allergy Swaps
- Soy-Free: Instead of soy sauce and store-bought vegetable broth (which may contain soy additives), use coconut aminos, tamari (gluten-free), liquid aminos, and soy-free broth or homemade broth.
- Gluten-Free: Instead of Worcestershire sauce (which may contain gluten), use a gluten-free Worcestershire alternative.
Overview: How to Make Pork Chops in The Slow Cooker Step-by-Step
Please check the recipe card at the bottom of the post for exact quantities and detailed instructions (scroll down).
- Season the Pork Chops
Season pork chops with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- Brown the Pork Chops (optional)
Add the oil to a large skillet on medium-high heat, and brown the pork chops on both sides for 2-3 minutes until they are browned well. Add them to the slow cooker.
- Mix Sauce Ingredients
Mix fresh garlic, honey, vegetable broth, rice wine vinegar, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce in a small bowl. Pour this mixture over the pork chops in the slow cooker and cover.
- Cook
Cook on LOW heat setting for 6 hours, or until fork-tender. Remove pork chops from the slow cooker, and place them on a plate; cover to keep warm.
- Thicken the Sauce
In a small bowl, stir cornstarch and 2 tablespoons of the cooking liquid until well blended; stir into sauce in the slow cooker. Return pork chops to the pot. Cook on HIGH heat setting for 10 – 15 minutes or until the sauce has thickened. Serve pork chops with the sauce.

Recipe Tips
The most tender results come from a bone-in thicker (approx. 3/4″) chop with nice marbling throughout.
Sear the pork chops first. Although it’s an optional extra step, searing the pork chops before adding them to the slow cooker is a must! It caramelizes the exterior, adding a flavorful brown crust that you can’t get just from slow cooking on its own.
If the chops aren’t tender (and you’ve used the recommended type), they likely need more time.

Storing and Freezing Instructions
Store: Store leftovers in a sealed food storage container in the refrigerator for 3 – 4 days.
Freeze: Place them in an airtight freezer container and freeze them for up to 2 months. When ready to enjoy, let thaw in the refrigerator before reheating.
Frequently Asked Questions
This step can be skipped if you’re short of time. But if you have time, it’s highly recommended and only takes a couple of minutes.
After a few tests, I recommend using bone-in, thick pork loin chops since they are the best cut for this recipe.
You can substitute for another light, mild vinegar, such as apple cider vinegar or champagne vinegar.
It will take around 3 – 6 hours, depending on the size and thickness of your pork chops.

hi, i see on other recipes to cook on low for 6 hours and yours is 2-3? why is that..thanks:)
Hello Sally! Thanks for your interest in my recipe. After testing several times I found out that 2-3 hours is more than enough time. The more you cook the pork chops the more dry and tough they will be.
Is that 2-3 hours in the crockpot or oven? I saw the 6 hours in both places on your recipe. Or are you saying 3 hours on low or high in the crockpot? Thanks!
Hello Jackie! This recipe is for the slow cooker/crockpot. The cooking time is around 6 hours on low or 3 hours on high; it will depend on the size and thicken of the pork chops. Thanks for your interest in my recipe. Please come back and let me know how you like it =)
Thought the chops were tasty but I was expecting a red-er, thicker sauce from your pictures so I served with rice and stir fried veggies…. but I guess I was imagining more of a sweet and sour sauce…. but I guess there really wasn’t any red ingredients in the recipe … picture was a bit misleadingly
Hello Heather! I am sorry the sauce wasn’t what you expected. I’m SO GLAD you enjoyed it though. Thank you for taking the time to come back and let me know!?
My kids and I do not eat pork very often as they are not fans of it. But I decided to try this recipe. I added a 1/2 tsp of Wasabi dry powder.
The sauce did not thicken up as I would have liked. BUT my kids really enjoyed it.
We did have an idea….with the leftovers, we are going to slice into thin pieces and let them completely soak in the juice overnight…then tomorrow we can add the meat to quesadillas OR broiled cheese and pork sandwiches.
This was amazing!!!! Thank you!
Hello Moméof2! I’m so happy you enjoyed it and thank you so much for taking the time to come back and let me know!?
Hi, I am cooking these now but only had thinner chops and didn’t see that you suggested thick cut. Any suggestions so they don’t come out tough? I did double the liquids because we like sauce.
Hello Christine! No worries, they will be great. I would check for doneness 30 minutes before the time is over. Thanks so much for your interest in my recipe ?
I kept my eye on them and I have to say my husband and I LOVED them! This is a keeper recipe for sure! Glad I found it!
Hello Christine! I’m SO GLAD you enjoyed it. Thank you for taking the time to come back and let me know!?
Hi , I am planning to make this recipe but I only have 4 thick pork chops. Would the same portion of ingredients on this webpage work or how much of each ingredient should I go down on?
Thank you , I’m very interested in trying this out.
Hello Vanessa! Thanks so much for your interest in my recipe. Yes, you can use the same portions. You might end up with a bit more sauce but the sauce is so yummy that you won’t regret it. Cheers!
My husband tasked me with cooking the pork chops tonight. Which is usually not my forte. Will give this a whirl!
Hello Jacky!! This recipe is easy to make and so delicious … you’ll love it. Thanks for your interest in my recipe. Please come back and let me know how you like it. ?
I found your recipe through a random
Google search when I typed in “porkcop recipe”. DELISH! It is a rare occurrence when I have the exact listed ingredients for the recipes already on hand in the pantry and fridge. My chops turned out perfectly using my slow cooker on low for 150 minutes. Very little prep time required. Thank you for posting.
Hello DLGinOr! I’m SO GLAD you enjoyed it. Thank you for taking the time to come back and let me know!?
I second this! Great comment. I rarely find a quick and tasty new recipe (when my schedule has to change and my day no longer includes being home at meal time for my family) and ALL of the necessary ingredients are already in my pantry and do not include additional “processed” foods as a means for the required ingredients. Thank you for posting this recipe! I Googled slow cooker pork chops and this post was one of the responses.
Hello Msria! I’m SO GLAD you enjoyed it. Thank you for taking the time to come back and let me know!?
Thank you, Oriana! It was delicious!
Hello Kate! I’m so glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for taking the time to come back and let me know!
Can frozen chops be used?
Hello Stacie! It’s not recommended to cook frozen meat in a slow cooker, as there’s the risk of harmful bacteria contaminating the meat before it reaches a safe temperature. Hope this help. Thanks for your interest in my recipe.
i”m cooking this in my crock pot right now. It doesn’t look like there will be enough of the sauce.
Terrible. Sauce was bitter. Will not make again.
Hello Carol! I am sorry this recipe didn’t work for you. Thanks for trying my recipe though.
Hi love this idea!! Just wondering if you put them in frozen how long would you cook them for?
Hello Nikki! I don’t recommend cooking frozen meats in the slow cooker because slow cookers don’t reliably get frozen meat up to a safe temperature quickly enough, which opens the door for bacteria to flourish. Hope this helps.
Maybe you did something wrong? This was amazing – followed recipe to the letter.
Hello Lisa! Thank you so much for trying my recipe, and I’m SO GLAD you enjoyed it!!
Hi. If I were to double the quantities, how much time should I cook them?
Hello Michelle, I would cook them for 30-45 minutes longer, or until fork-tender. Thanks for your interest in my recipe.
At the top of the recipe it says cook time is 5 hours but below it says 2 to 3 hours. Which is it? I’d like to make them tomorrow.
Hello Collen, Sorry for the confusion! The cooking time is 2-3 hours in LOW, or until fork-tender. Thanks for your interest in my recipe ????
Thanks. Making them tonight!
I made these pork chops, and while the flavors were delicious, the chops were a little tough.
Did they need to cook longer?
Hello! I am glad you like this recipe. Make sure to use thick cut pork loin chops otherwise it might turn out dry and tough. I like to use thick pork loin chops (with bone) best. Thanks for stopping by.
If loin chops with the bone work best, why do all the pictures appear to be of boneless chops?
Hello Priscilla! I have tested this recipes multiples times but I don’t take photos every time. I hope that clarifies your question.
I made the honey pork chops but did them in the power pot. I am new to the pot but they came out very yummy. I think I over cooked them just a little but I did not get any complaints from the man. His comment was that they were good.
If you could give me a time for the pressure cooker I would appreciate it. we will be making these again!
Hello Donna! For the pressure cooker, cook the pork chops for 8-10 minutes. Thanks for trying my recipe.
Honey garlic pork chops? Damn, I’m gonna have to try this myself. It must be sooo delicious! I don’t use my slow cooker that much, so it’s going to be a fun experience =)
